Letter From CEO

Thank you for taking the time and allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Abid Ali and I am the Founder and CEO of ALI Botanics Inc.  I am on a mission to discover nature’s cure for pain in Cannabis. 

I would like to share my story behind launching this business and explain where my passion for discovering nature’s cures in cannabis comes from. I was born in Pakistan and migrated to Canada when I was 11.  I was blessed to come here, finding a loving family of uncle, aunt and cousins who provided support and guidance needed for my parents to establish themselves and allow us the kids an opportunity to just learn, grow and adapt into the Canadian society. 

In 2007, I found out that my cousin, who was an older brother to me, was diagnosed with cancer at 36 years of age; this brother guided me and supported me throughout my life to a point that I even chose my university and program at his advice.  I felt very sad and all I wanted to do was to find a way to reduce his pain and help him but I felt so useless and helpless. I spent hours and hours researching the disease itself and its treatments. I decided to call him one day to invite him for a meal. 

After the meal, I rolled up a cannabis joint and we smoked it while discussing the benefits of cannabis as symptom relief mechanism for cancer patients.  The next couple hours were the best of times and memories I’ve ever had with my cousin; after a very long time, we shared laughter, stories and then some bitter truth, tears and emotions. 

He himself said, he felt better and said that the cannabis actually helped him be more relaxed and it reduced the pain he was feeling after chemo and nausea; which he normally felt after eating. We talked about importance of hope and patience in one’s life and being able to cherish the moments we do have. 

He lost his battle in April 2008. 

I was devastated to loose someone so close, so good and so young. Looking back, I know that I was able to reduce his pain and suffering a little, and I was happy that I was able to do so through cannabis. 

To date I have lost 14 close family members, friends and know many more effected by Cancer. I have aging parents and relatives suffering from various types of pain; I have a nephew who is autistic, and I would give the world to find a way for him to live a normalized life. I am a medicinal cannabis patient, and have family & friends suffering from IBS, Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis, MS, Depression, Anxiety and other illnesses. 

I am not saying that Cannabis cures all of these conditions but the question I have is, would you not consider a plant  "Cannabis" as a remedy for pain relief over chemically compounded drugs with significant side effects?

Its just a question to consider and all I am asking is for you to educate yourself about cannabis, its good, bad and the ugly and help us remove cultural taboo around it and start conversations that are focused on patients, youths and safety of our communities.
